Shahpari Island – Cox's Bazar

Shahpari Island is a very close island located in the southernmost part of Teknaf. On the left side of Shahpari Island is the Naf River. Beyond the river lies Burma or Myanmar's border. Shahpari Island is essentially a village in Sabrang Union. Although it was once an island, it was joined to the mainland some time ago due to climate change  The distance from Teknaf city to Shahpari Island is approximately nine kilometers.

There is a legend that Shahsuja's wife Paribanu's 'fairy' and Shahsuja's 'Shah' combined the name of this island Shahpari's island.Another opinion suggests that the island was named 'Shahpari' after Shah Farid Auliya. There are various historical beliefs regarding the naming of Shahpari Island among the locals.

Go to the three beaches of Shahpari Island and you will see the shape of the sea. You can see the coast of Myanmar from the solitary island of Golarchor. Here, you can also find the barren hills of Arakan and the uninhabited villages of Burmese army personnel. While these villages used to have life at one time, now they are deserted. If you want, you can also see St. Martin's Island from a distance.

In Jelepara, you will come across small tribal settlements, Rohingya settlements, mountain caves, and Mathin's well. You can also take a trawler or boat ride from St. Martin's Island to explore Shahpari Island if you wish.
